Dr Karen

Veterinarian (BVSc)

I started my Veterinary career in Newcastle and Sydney, then journeyed South to Tasmania where I had my own clinic for 5 years.

I re-converted to a “mainlander” in 2018, and took the plunge when Raf and I made a pact to follow our dreams to live big. We moved from Sydney to sunny Gold Coast wanting to create a happy clinic. Somewhere where staff and clients alike can feel heard, seen, and empowered in order to become the best animal welfare advocates they can be.

I understand the power of the animal-human bond, and hope to work with you to achieve best outcomes.

Raf and I co-parents Myrtle the Chocolate Vizsla, and Ella the Eclectus Parrot.

Dr Kelly

Veterinarian (BVSc)

I graduated from University of Queensland in 2018.

Since then, I have been working with a local emergency centre and general practices around the Gold Coast. My special interests lie with feline medicine, and emergency and critical care.

I was born and raised in Hong Kong, however Australia has been my home for the past 8 years. My little family consists of Ringo the lazy ginger cat and Nugget the mischievous cockatiel.

Dr Steph

Veterinarian (BVSc (HonsI), MANZCVS (Medicine of Cats))

After graduating from Sydney Uni in 2015, I moved to Brisbane where I have spent the past 6 years practicing as a small animal GP vet. Six years away from the ocean was enough, so I moved to the Gold Coast in search of a better coastal lifestyle.

I am a fully certified crazy cat lady, having completed additional qualifications in feline medicine. I have two cats at home – Tintin and Donnie. They are probably the most spoiled felines in all of Queensland and have my partner wrapped around their little paws.

Even though cats are my favorite, I am passionate about providing thorough and compassionate care for all of the fur-babies that come in to see us.

Practice Mascot

Business Manager

I might be very new to the Vet Industry (and so far, loving it) but I have always been very passionate about animal welfare and wellbeing. I grew up in a house full of love and marvelous pets.

For most of my adult life I worked in Education, preparing new generations of leaders. Now, I have decided to use my skills and knowledge to provide ongoing support to my partner Karen. Together we hope to build a happy clinic. A place where we can provide the best possible service and care to all our clients (regardless if they are on two or four legs). A place where staff, clients and pets feel welcome, appreciated and looked after.

Karen and I co-parent Myrtle the Chocolate Vizsla, and Ella the Eclectus Parrot.

Registered Veterinary Nurse & Assistant Practice Manager

After finishing high school I spent about 10 years living, travelling and working around parts of Australia, Europe, South America and Africa. Eventually, I settled in Melbourne. After a year or so working away in oil refineries, I decided it was time to find work a little closer to home and a little closer to my heart.

Since then, I've spent the last almost 10 years very happily working in the Veterinary Industry.

I started my career as a junior vet nurse later in life than most, eager to learn the ropes and immerse myself in all things animal. Along the way I came to realise that I actually really like people too and my role as Practice Manager in a small animal hospital in Melbourne evolved.

2022 has brought about the opportunity to join the Ashmore City Vet team and I couldn't be more thrilled.

My favourite part of working in the veterinary industry (aside from the fluffy cuddles) is getting to know the clients. I love to learn about the relationship they have with their pets and help in any way I can to ensure the relationship is happy, healthy and long-lasting.

I was born and raised in a small country town in NSW, so animals have always been a huge part of my life. I had a cat when I was growing up and have always had dogs. I had 6 dogs at one time and 5 Conures that were heaps of fun.
I have spent time on farms helping with the artificial insemination of cattle and feeding poddies, which I think was the one of the most rewarding things I have done outside of raising my two teenage sons.

I love hiking, connecting to nature, beach walks and I'm an avid yogi. I look forward to meeting you and your family.

Trainee Veterinary Nurse

In 2019 I backpacked through South East Asia, volunteering in dog rescues along the way This adventure is what inspired me to start my career in Animal Care when I returned home.

I have completed my certificate III Animal Studies and am currently studying certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. I find animal care incredibly rewarding and love the special bond families have with their fur-babies.

In my spare time I like to be in nature, going for bush walks, camping or taking my Border Collie,  Ara and Cocker Spaniel, Marlie to the beach. I am excited to be joining the team at Ashmore City Vets and can’t wait to cuddle your fur-babies!

Registered Veterinary Nurse

After Emigrating from the UK 8 years ago I decided to study Vet Nursing as this was a career I had always dreamed of! Since starting my career as a vet nurse I have had the opportunity to work in a range of clinics around the Gold coast.

I am now very excited to be a part of the Ashmore City Vets team after returning to work after a year off to have my son.

Along with my human son I also have a little ginger girl cat, named KitKat 🐱 I hand raised KitKat after she was brought into a clinic as an orphan and she was very sick. After the first night I took her home that was it she never left!

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Growing up on a sheep and cattle property I never wanted to be anything but a vet nurse.

I spent most of my vet nursing career in mixed practices in Western NSW.

I also spent some time breeding Labrador Retrievers mainly supplying NSW Guide Dogs and the Police force. I enjoyed showing my Labs and competing in obedience and agility trials.

Due to family commitments my career path changed to management of pet supply stores on the Gold Coast, and now I'm back to my true love of vet nursing

I'm mother to Molly the Labradoodle and Grandmother to Olive the boxer x who lives with me part-time.

Trainee Veterinary Nurse

I am a trainee vet nurse. I have always had a profound love for animals, they always make me smile and laugh, especially when I need it. In return, I want to be able to help them when they need me.

I have experience working with wildlife for WIRES in NSW, as a volunteer with koalas, I've also volunteered at an animal rescue shelter with neglected dogs and cats.

I am the mother of a female Eclectus parrot named Poppy, who has a sweet and funny little personality.

Assistant Nurse (Cert Woof Woof)

Hello! My name is Myrtle, other times Myrtle Turtle, sometimes Magic Myrtle. Mum gets lazy and calls me Mert for short. I am told I am one of the best dogs out there, and I believe it.

I am a down to earth girl with normal interests like balls and sticks

I also love lizards - aren't they just fantastic?

I used to love catching flies, but now only if they land on me

I love sniffing around in the forest when we go bushwalking

I also love the river, oh and swimming in general

Did I say I love lizards?

I go to work with mum and dad on a near daily basis, I am a good nurse. I try my best not to eat other animal's food when I'm at work.

Ps. Did you notice I am at the main page photo - and oh boy what a day that was, running on the beach along my boyfriend of the day...

Professor Ella

Customer Service Manager

Hello hello.

I was born in August 2013. Soon after, my carers noticed that I was not quite the same as my brothers and sisters - they were at least a third bigger than I was, and fully feathered in glorious colours.

The wildlife zoo could not keep me as they feared I had an infectious disease that may infect the other parrots in their care. Which is when I was handed into Dr Karen “to be put down”. After taking one look into my eyes, my to-be-mum decided to give me a second chance. The rest is history!

When I am not stage-shy, I can get quite loud, mimicking everything - words, sneezes, and laughter.

Fun fact: I drench myself in my water bowl to "have a bath" whenever I hear the vacuum.
